Uses SD card for recording. 64gb card will record over 5 hours when set to the highest AVCHD resolution. Notable feature is the 50X optical zoom (excellent) with 90X hybrid and up to 500X digital zoom, makes night sky viewing very interesting. I sold my Canon HFR600 just for the Panasonic’s excellent zooming capability. Plus also great for recording the kids sporting events. Easy of use of auto, manual and program functions make this device fun to use. Another plus is ability to record with the screen closed. Great for action shooting while on a bike, skiing, etc. Highly recommended!!!
